Kawai has made a name for themselves as a quality piano manufacturer with a rich history. With a varied lineup of grand, upright and digital instruments, they have become a true industry leader. Here are just a few reasons why purchasing a Kawai piano from Chupp’s Piano Service is a wise decision.
1: Quality Manufacturing
Kawai has built a rock solid reputation of the highest quality. With their headquarters and primary factories located in Japan, they have not simply retained high standards, they continue to advance and build upon their previous research and experience. We have personally found that Kawai grand and upright pianos are among the most durable and solidly crafted pianos, well suited to even the most demanding institutional environments.
2: Pioneering Advancement
Kawai is well known and respected for their innovation when it comes to the parts that go into their many pianos. In 1971 Kawai began utilizing ABS for a number of their piano action parts. Why did they do this? According to tests completed in 1998, the ABS parts were more consistent in size, were over 50% stronger and were much more resistant to environmental problems when compared to wooden parts.
Recently Kawai has combined their ABS components with advanced carbon fiber to create an ABS-Carbon composite. This is much stronger than their previous design and allows for lighter parts, creating a quicker and more responsive action. Although some competitors have attempted to discredit the ‘plastic’ parts, they have proved to be long-lasting and very precise. The added rigidity of these parts aid in the transfer of power from the keystroke to the hammer.
Kawai hasn’t been afraid to try new things and this has benefited the music industry as a whole. Recently legendary American piano manufacturer Mason & Hamlin began utilizing composite action parts in their piano actions with tremendous success.
3: A Long Company History
The Kawai Company was founded in 1927 by Koichi Kawai and his associates. They are not a new company attempting to push themselves into the market with no one to vouch for them.
Instead, they have a long tradition of quality and history to back them up with distribution to over 80 countries worldwide. Kawai America Corporation was established in 1963 and oversees the sales and service representatives throughout North America. A network Chupp’s Pianos is proud to be a part of.
4: A Varied Lineup
Whether you are looking for a Grand, Upright, or Digital piano, Kawai has you covered. In fact, they also offer a line of what they call a Hybrid Piano. What is this you ask? Kawai defines the line as;
“A new breed of musical instrument created by the fusion of acoustic and digital piano elements – designed to enhance the enjoyment, flexibility and capabilities of the player.”
A Kawai Digital Hybrid takes a Kawai Digital piano, but instead of simply playing the tones and sound through speakers, it transfers the sound energy into a real wooden soundboard to create a rich, beautiful tone just like an acoustic piano. A Kawai Acoustic Hybrid works in a slightly different way. Kawai takes an acoustic upright piano and adds digital technology. In the instrument’s acoustic mode, these pianos can be played as you would any other acoustic piano. However when switched to “AnyTime Mode” the hammers never hit the strings, they instead utilize digital technology that produces the sound through plugged in headphones, a best of both worlds situation! This is a great option if you want an acoustic piano, but live in an apartment complex or have sleeping children. But no matter what type of piano you are looking for in Kawai’s lineup, Chupp’s will work with you to find the one that suits your needs the best.
