1924 Steinway & Sons Model B Grand Piano #229649 – Undergoing Restoration @ Chupp’s Piano Service, Inc.

With a length of approx. 6’11” in length, the Steinway & Sons Model B has grown to become one of the world’s most famous musical instruments. Dubbed by some to be the ‘perfect piano’, these seven-foot instruments are often chosen by professional and amateur musicians as their personal practice instruments. It is not uncommon to see these pianos gracing concert stages as well! The length of these ‘parlor’ grand pianos offers them a wonderful balance between manageable size and concert-quality performance.  These instruments were first introduced in 1878, and production has been consistent at the New York and Hamburg factories since that date.

Tim Chupp - Pinblock pinhole drilling.Model B #229649 was built in 1924 at the New York Steinway & Sons Factory. Chupp’s Piano Service, Inc. is pleased to offer a large selection of premium restored Steinway & Sons pianos – and this includes a number of Model B parlor grands. Our extensive regulation and voicing process brings out the best that these iconic instruments can be and ensures a true Steinway level of tone and touch.

Currently undergoing restoration, this piano’s action will been fully rebuilt with new, highest-quality parts. This includes new dimensionally correct wippens, and new hammers mounted on new shanks, and flanges. An inspection of the piano will conclude whether to install a new damper back action or restore the existing components. The action will be fully regulated and voiced by our technicians. New premium music wire and custom copper wound bass strings will compliment blued Klinke tuning pins. A new custom-fitted pinblock made of hard rock maple coupled with a new solid spruce soundboard will ensure stability and quality of tone. The Highest In Quality | Vintage Steinway & Sons Restoration

‘Golden age’ Steinway & Sons Grand Pianos have become the preferred choice of countless concert pianists, recording artists, and piano aficionados around the world.  Golden-era Steinway pianos are the epitome of the craftsmanship that has made the Steinway name so legendary. Craftsmen had access to the very finest materials and intense competition drove them to create the best pianos possible.

Here at Chupp’s Piano Service, Inc. our restoration work is focused on returning each vintage piano to a concert level of performance. For over five decades we have brought new life to a countless number of historic grand pianos and are dedicated to carrying on the longstanding workmanship of the piano industry.

“This is the Steinway piano heaven at the heart of the Midwest. I have never seen a finer showroom in America, full of pianos of astonishing quality and range. The rebuilds are of such precise craftsmanship, yet each instrument takes on a life of its own. Dennis Chupp—who has an incredible and international reputation for his work—and his dedicated team turn out the finest pianos I have ever played.

Dennis and his son Tim happily engage in lengthy chats about all aspects of their work, and are generous in allowing the exploration of their showroom. They don’t push their customers; their pianos calmly speak for themselves.

This place is a unique treasure—I try to pass through as often as I can, and recommend this as the very first place to look for Steinway and other rare instruments.”

–  Zsolt Bognár – Pianist, Author, Host of “Living The Classical Life”
