“The fit and finish of the case makes the 80-year-old piano look like it was freshly minted from the factory…”
In the business of restoring and selling pianos, recommendations, and reviews from our friends and clients is always a great encouragement. One of the things that we assist with quite often, is the selection of a piano by a client who lives well outside of our local Northern Indiana region. The team here at Chupp’s Piano Service was recently able to provide a beautiful Steinway & Sons Grand Piano to one of these customers. We worked with Randall via email and phone to ensure they received an instrument that met their expectations. Our network of expert piano delivery specialists allows us to deliver across the entire country – and even overseas! Randall was kind enough to send in a letter about the piano and his experience working with Chupp’s Pianos. My first experience of a Chupp’s piano was at a friend’s home. He had purchased a Steinway concert grand that was rebuilt by Chupp’s. I was very impressed with the piano. It had the sound and action feel that I wanted in a grand piano. I continued my search for a Steinway grand. A few months later, I contacted Chupp’s and discovered that a Steinway grand similar to my friends was in the rebuild process.
Tim and Dennis answered all my questions, sent photos of the progress, and reserved the piano for a deposit. We discussed my playing and how I wanted the piano to look, sound, and play. As a result, they put on concert legs with the large castors and used a new style Renner hammer instead of the Steinway branded hammer. The piano was also voiced to match my requests. When I visited Chupp’s to audition the piano, I could not have been more impressed. They allowed me all the time I needed to play and evaluate the piano.
The work and craftsmanship are truly impressive. The fit and finish of the case makes the 80 year old piano look like it was freshly minted from the factory. The piano was completely rebuilt and restored. Fortunately, the original soundboard was intact; it was refinished and had decals applied. The rebuild was meticulously done with high quality parts and attention to detail. Every detail. The piano was prepped for shipping and arrived in the same condition it was in when I tried it out. I am very fortunate to have this type of instrument – it helps me play better and enjoy piano and music more and more.
A lot of what I hear in recordings and performances by professionals is now available when I practice and play. A concert level instrument that has been rebuilt to this level of precision brings a new dimension and experience to playing. Sounds and effects I thought only professional concert pianists could achieve are possible. The piano allows dynamics from pppp to ffff. The sustains goes on and on and on and on and on and on. The treble has a wonderful bell and flute quality and sings, the mid-range is warm and has a rich presence, the bass is powerful, brassy, and has growl when needed. Needless to say, I am very happy with the Steinway I purchased from Chupp’s and highly recommend their work. It is my dream piano come true. Thank you Tim, Dennis and the entire staff.
